Originally, this was supposed to be a chapter set in the current Burn It All to Ashes timeline, the general plot of which was supposed to be something involving Jason having a nightmare/flashback (I hadn't really decided at the time) about his death, but everything kind of... spiraled from there. I couldn't find a way to make something this long and detailed fit within the context I wanted, but I really couldn't bring myself to delete any of this, and since the whole “nightmare/flashback” thing wasn't really working the way I wanted it to at this particular point in the story, I decided to go ahead and scrap it. What I didn't want to do, however, was just throw away this whole wonderful (well- that may not be the best choice of words for this particular scene, but I'm still very proud of the writing) little thing, so... yeah. Consider this an interlude. An interlude that's come down with a bad case of “Death in the Family was a pile of shit, so I'm rewriting it somewhat to suit my needs.”

Oh, and: yes, this Joker is influenced by the Dark Knight, why do you ask?

Taking place after Under the Hood, BiAtA is an alternate universe fanfiction in which the Red Hood returned to Gotham nearly a year after the finale of UTH. In addition to screwing with the post-UTH timeline, this fic also contains many fan-retcons, as Black Mask is currently alive and involved in a vicious gang war with the Great White Shark, AKA, Warren White. This series is still ongoing.
